Abstract:Critically ill patients often suffer from severe muscle wasting after being struck by various factors, and the muscle wasting that occurs in the ICU exacerbates the state of weakness, and its effect may even continue to affect the recovery of body and organ function at the post-ICU stage. The high mortality rate of critically ill patients is often associated with a persistent state of weakness. However, muscle loss in critically ill patients is not completely irreversible.Early diagnosis and intervention can reduce muscle loss, which may improve the ICU rescue rate and the long-term prognosis of surviving patients and reduce the rate of disability. In this article,we will review the advances in diagnosing and treating muscle loss syndrome in the ICU in terms of overview, definition, mechanism, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention.
