Abstract:In recent years,non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) has been extensively applied and rapidly developed in emergency medicine. So far, NIPPV is widely used in acute respiratory failure across a variety of aetiologies, such asacute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (AECOPD) and cardiogenic pulmonary oedema. The rational use of NIPPV may help relieve symptoms, and is associated with decreased rates of intubation and mortality. We review the present situation and progress of emergency application of NIPPV in this paper.
