Defination and diagnostic criteria of acute kidney injury:yesterday,today and tomorrow

Abstract:Acute kidney injury (AKI) has a high morbidity and mortality in the ICU. In recent years,the diagnostic criteria of past AKI have been further improved. From the 2004 RIFLE standard to the 2007 AKIN standard,to the latest 2012 KIDGO standard. The revision of each diagnostic criteria is bound to accompany a series of advances made in the pathogenesis, early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of AKI. With the updating of technical means,further understanding of the pathophysiological process of AKI disease and the updating of AKI diagnostic criteria are also imperative. This article focuses on elaborating the evolution of past AKI definitions and predicting the possible changes in future AKI diagnostic criteria.
