Abstract:Paraquat is a widely used herbicide, which is high toxic and lethal. Acute lung injury ( ALI) is the main cause of death. As the basis of defense and homeostasis regulation in human body, the dysfunction of immunocyte could be induced by paraquat poisoning, for instance, macrophage dysfunction, abnormal activation of neutrophils, activation of Th17 cells and release of proinflammatory cytokines, activation of B cells in early stage and inhibition in later stage, and inhibition of NK cells. More importantly, immunocyte dysfunctionabove is likely to be the critical mechanism of ALI. Therefore, immunocyte dysfunction could be the key etiological factor of paraquat-induced ALI.
