Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between the plasma neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin ( NGAL) and endothelin ( ET) levels and disorder of lipid metabolism in severe obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome( OSAHS) patients. Methods A total of 55 patients with severe OSAHS(25 patients with normal blood lipid and 30 patients with hyperlipidemia) and 35 normal controls were subjected. The age, gender and body mass index (BMI) of the three groups were balanced. The 55 patients with severe OSAHS were diagnosed by overnight polysomnography (PSG) and plasma levels of NGAL and ET were determined by enzyme immunoassay. The levels of TC, TG and LDL were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer. Results ①Compared with normal control, the levels of serum NGAL and ET were increased(P<0.05) in severe OSAHS patients with normal blood lipid, whereas the levels of serum NGAL and ET were significantly increased ( P<0.01 ) in severe OSAHS patients with hyperlipidemia.Compared with the severe OSAHS patients without hyperlipidemia, the levels of serum NGAL and ET were also significantly increased ( P <0.01 ) in severe OSAHS patients with hyperlipidemia.②The serum NGAL levels were correlated positively with TC( r=0.584, P<0.05)in sever OSAHS patients, and were also correlated positively with LDL(r=0.525,P<0.05). The serum ET levels were correlated positively with TC(r=0.610,P<0.05)in sever OSAHS patients, and were also correlated positively with LDL(r=0.578,P<0.05).The levels of NGAL and ET were positively correlated, and the correlation was significant(r=0.953,P<0.01).Conclusion The levels of NGAL and ET in patients with severe OSAHS are elevated and related to disorder of lipid metabolism.
