The value of video laryngoscope for tracheal intubation in prehospital settings:a meta-analysis
Abstract:Objective To assess the value of video laryngoscope for tracheal intubation in prehospital settings. Methods Databases including Pubmed and Embase were searched for controlled trails about tracheal intubation, which were accomplished by using video laryngoscope and direct laryngoscope in prehospital settings.Data in these trials were analyzed by Revman5.1 software. Results Four trials were identified including altogether 1794 patients. There was no difference between video laryngoscope and direct laryngoscope in ultimate success of intubation [WMD=1.00, 95% CI (0.98, 1.02 ), P =0.99 ].Many intubation failed with video laryngoscope, then switch to the direct laryngoscope to complete intubation [WMD =51.46, 95% CI (10.39, 254.79), P <0.001]. Conclusion Despite its many advantages seen in other settings, the video laryngoscope did not show superior to direct laryngoscope in prehospital settings, large sample of clinical researches are needed to confirm its value.
