Abstract:Objective To assess the cost of hospitalizing patients with acute aortic dissection ( AAD) and identify the cost determinants of the disease. Methods All 58 adult patients admitted in Peking University Third Hospital from Feb.1, 2001 to Feb.1, 2011 were reviewed retrospectively. Analysis included demographic, hospitalizing cost and related clinical variables affecting the costs. Results ①A total of 58 patients with AAD were included in the study. The average age was 55.2 ± 11.7 years old.The ratio of male to female was 10.6:1.The mortality in hospital was 24.1%.②Median hospital cost was RMB 115, 296, (25%~75%:15, 899~158, 635).③For all patients, age, the Stanford classification, delay for diagnosis, prognosis, complication, whether surgery and admitting intensive care unit were not the determinants of hospital cost.④But for survival patients, surgery or no surgery RMB 137, 944 (121, 244~168, 185) vs RMB 12, 180 (10, 047~15, 899) was the important factor for expensive hospital cost (P <0.001).Conclusion The hospital cost of acute aortic dissection was expensive.Surgery was associated with increased cost in survival AAD patients.
