Clinical significance of the elevation of serum lipase in critical patients
Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical significance of elevation of serum lipase in critical patients and the relationship with the prognosis. Methods The data of 116 critical patients (APACHEⅡ score>20) in our intensive care unit (ICU) were retrospectively analyzed, and all the patients were divided into two groups: normal serum lipase group ( group A) and hyperlipasemia group ( group B) .Hypotension, MODS, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, the time in ICU and mortality of two groups were compared. Results Fifty-one patients'(44.0%) serum lipase was elevated. The rate of hypotension, MODS, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, the time in ICU and mortality were all obviously higher in the hyperlipasemia patients than in normal group. The higher serum lipase was, the worse prognosis was.The mortality increased obviously when serum lipase >3 multiple of normal level. Conclusion Variation of the serum lipase may be an important index to reflect the patients status and to assess the prognosis to the critical illness.
