Dynamic analysis of serum procalcitonin and acute phase protein in patients with septic shock of different reasons
Abstract:Objective To analyze dynamic expression levels and clinical significance of serum procalcitonin( PCT) and acute phase proteins in patients with septic shock of different reasons. Methods We collected the clinical data of 80 patients with septic shock of different reasons, and these patients were divided into abdominal trauma with septic shock group ( n=20 ) , abdominal infection with septic shock group (n=20), chest trauma with septic shock group (n=20), lung infection with septic shock group (n=20).Twenty non-septic shock patients served as control group. The patients'venous blood was taken for detection of PCT, CRP and prealbumin before treatment and on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after treatment. Results Compared with control group, septic shock groups showed an overall higher level of serum PCT and CRP were (P<0.05) and an lower level of serum prealbumin (P<0.05). Abdominal trauma with septic shock showed the most significant changes of serum PCT, CRP and prealbumin, which were higher than those of other septic shock groups (P <0.05), followed by abdominal infection with shock group and chest trauma with septic shock group, and minimal changes in pulmonary infection with septic shock group (P<0.05).On the 1st and 3rd day after treatment, the serum levels of PCT, CRP and prealbumin in all septic shock groups were increased gradually, and on the 7th day the serum levels of PCT, CRP and prealbumin went back to the same level on the 1st day after treatment. Conclusion Dynamical observation of the serum PCT and acute phase proteins may help the doctors to evaluate the severity and prognosis of septic shock, and provide the basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment on septic shock of different reasons.
