An analysis of the relationship between hypertension incidence and serum uric acid in university faculties
Abstract:Objective The present study aims to investigate the impact of serum uric acid rise on hypertension incidence .Methods Eight hundred and thirty -two university faculties in Harbin did health check in 2008 who were rechecked in 2011 .Among them 796 valid individuals were analyzed the relationship between the rise of serum uric acid and hypertension incidence .Results Hypertension incidence was 8.16%in 3 years. The results both in 2008 and in 2011 showed that the serum uric acid level of hypertension group was higher than normotension group (P<0.0001).Although serum uric acid level of both hypertension group and normotension group were lowered in 2011 , serum uric acid level of new-added hypertension group was higher than the level of their un -sick time in 2008 , and also higher than the level of normotension in the same period in 2011 .Multivariate Logistic regression analysis result indicates the rise of serum uric acid level will increase hypertension incidence risk ( OR=1.35, 95%credibility interval 1.14 ~1.68).When the age, sex and other traditional risk factors (body mass index, blood sugar, triglyceride total cholesterol and so on ) were controlled, the relationship between serum uric acid and hypertension were weakened , but also had statistical significance (OR=1.24,95%credibility interval 1.07 ~1.44 ).Conclusion Serum uric acid is an independent risk factor of hypertension incidence .The rise of serum uric acid level will increase the risk of hypertension .
