Variation and influencing factors of the cerebral oxygen saturation monitored by INVOS 5100 in patients with sub-acute traumatic brain injury
Abstract:Objective The aim of this study is to investigate the regional transcranial oxygen saturation ( rSO2 ) in patients with sub-acute traumatic brain injury ( TBI) , and the factors affecting a variability of rSO2 values. Methods This observational study was carried in a teaching hospital. There were two groups in this study. The healthy group involved 30 healthy people, and the TBI group included 40 TBI patients. The rSO2 was measured by Somanetics INVOS 5100 monitor and the arterial blood was sampled to measure blood gas analysis. The healthy people were measured by INVOS 5100 monitor for the rSO2 only. Results The parameter of rSO2 in patients with sub-acute traumatic brain injury was significantly decreased compared with healthy people ( P <0.01).A significant negative correlation between the rSO2 values and age and a positive correlation between the rSO2 values and hemoglobin concentration were observed (P<0.01).Conclusion ①There is a disorder of oxygen metabolism in patients with sub-acute TBI;②These data indicate that patient age and hemoglobin concentration can affect rSO2 values.
