Thymosin combined with Xuebijing injection used for treatment of the elderly patients with sepsis and pulmonary infection
Abstract：Objective The aim of this study was to explore the immune effects of thymosin combined with Xuebijing injection on the elderly patients with pulmonary infection and sepsis.Methods Sixty cases of elderly patients with pulmonary infection and sepsis were collected from January 2012 to January 2014 in Nanjing Medical University Affiliated Nanjing Hospital as the treatment group, using thymosin combined with Xuebijing injection treatment.The peripheral blood levels of Th1 cell, Th2 cell and Treg cell were tested by flow cytometry at admission and the seventh day, as well as procalcitonin and C-reactive protein.According to 7-day death as the end, treatment group was further divided into two groups, of which 17 cases of patients who died as a death group, 43 patients survived as a survival group.Nineteen patients who were not used thymosin combined with Xuebijing injection in the same period served as a control group.Results ①Th1, Th2 cells levels of treatment group on day 7 were significantly higher than treatment group at admission and the control group at admission and on day 7 (P<0.05).Th1/Th2 ratio of treatment group on day 7 was higher than treatment group at admission and the control group at admission and after treatment (P<0.01).Treg cells levels of treatment group on day 7 were less than those at admission (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).②Th1 cells, Th2 cells levels of survival group were higher than the death group(P<0.01), 0.05 respectively.Treg cell levels of survival group on the seventh day were lower than the group of death(P<0.01).③The CRP, PCT, APACHE-II score were not significant different between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).④ICU stay time of treatment group was shorter than the control group ( P <0.05 ) , two groups had no significant difference in mortality(P>0.05).Conclusion Abnormal expression of Th1 cells, Th2 cells and Treg cells are found in elderly patients with pulmonary infection and sepsis, thymosin combined with Xuebijing injection treatment could improve immune function.
