The impact of hemocoagulase on surgical field visibility and efficacy in arthroscopic management of rotator cuff injuries

Abstract:Objective To investigate the impact of locally applied hemocoagulase atrox on surgical field visibility and surgical outcomes in arthroscopic surgery for rotator cuff injuries. Methods A prospective study was conducted with 120 patients, who were divided into control group and hemocoagulase group based on a random number table. Both groups received saline and copperhead hemocoagulase solution for intra-articular lavage in shoulder arthroscopy, respectively. At the end of the surgery, only the hemocoagulase group had applied local hemocoagulase powder. The surgical field visibility, operation time, and intraoperative bleeding were subsequently compared between the two groups. Results The visibility of the surgical field in the hemocoagulase group(8.48±0.73)was significantly superior to that in the control group(7.31±0.72)(P<0.001),accompanied by a significant reduction in operation time(92.50±19.04)min,(105.79±16.66)min and intraoperative bleeding(25.47±8.56)ml,(37.61±10.78)ml(P<0.01).Twenty-four-hour postoperative drainage, hospital stay, and pain scores were lower in the hemocoagulase group, suggesting the potential benefits of copperhead hemocoagulase in improving surgical outcomes and promoting postoperative recovery. However, there was no significant difference in postoperative swelling or constant-murley scores between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions Local application of copperhead hemocoagulase effectively enhances the visibility of the surgical field in arthroscopy surgery, reduces intraoperative bleeding, shortens operation time, and significantly improves postoperative drainage and pain control compared to the control group, providing a new hemostasis method for minimally invasive treatment of rotator cuff injuries.
