Abstract:Objective To investigate mortality of nonagenarian hip fracture, and determine risk factors. Methods From Jan 2012 to Dec 2016, 101 nonagenarian hip fracture patients ( 66 intertrochanteric fracture;35 femoral neck fracture) were included. There were 43 males and 58 females with the mean age of ( 92.27 ± 2.73) years ( range: 90-104 years). Forty-five patients could walk independently, while 56 need walking aid. Age, gender, type of fracture, surgery time, operation procedure, comorbidity, complication, and mortality were collected. Risk factors of 1-year mortality after surgery were analyzed by univariate and multivariate statistical analysis. Results Nine cases ( 8.9%) died 30 days after operation, 17 cases ( 16.8%) died 6 months after operation, and 27 cases ( 26.7%) died1 year after operation. Conclusions Main causes of 1-year mortality for nonagenarian hip fracture are pulmonary infection and malnutrition. Poor pre-injury activity is an independent risk factor for mortality after operation ( OR =3.001).
