Abstract:Objective To evaluate effects of Surgiflo and absolute alcohol in the treatment of pediatric aneurysmal bone cyst. Methods Between February 2011 and May 2015, 16 children with aneurysmal bone cyst were treated in PLA 180th hospital.Ten cases were male, and 6 cases were female. The average age was 8.3 years (range:3-13 years). There were 7 cases involving the proximal humerus, 6 cases involving the proximal tibia, and3 cases involving the distal femur. All children were treated primarily, and underwent percutaneous injection with surgiflo and absolute alcohol.Postoperatively, Criteria of Neer&Chigira was used to evaluate effects.VAS scores, tumorous volumn, minimal distance between the tumor and physis, thickness of the thinnest cortex were recorded. Results Fourteen cases underwent operation once, and 2 cases underwent operation twice. The average VAS score was0.2 (range:0-1).There were significant differences preoperation and postoperation in tumorous volumn, minimal distance between the tumor and physis, thickness of the thinnest cortex (t=16.883, P<0.01;t=6.488, P<0.01;t=17.303, P<0.01).According to Criteria of Neer&Chigira, all cases were in level III, and effective rate was 100%.Conclusions Percutaneous injection of surgiflo and absolute alcohol is safe, effective and minimal invasive in the treatment of pediatric aneurysmal bone cysts. It may be a recommended alternative therapy.
