Abstract:Objective To investigate effects of acetabular labrum repair on periacetabular osteotomy ( PAO ) for adults with developmental dysplasia of the hip ( DDH ). Methods A series of 65 DDH patients receiving PAO was observed retrospectively. At least 1.5 cm size labrum injury was detected by MRI. All patients were divided into 2 groups ( labrum repair group and control group ). Labrum repair group included 47 cases who underwent periacetabular osteotomy and labral repair. The mean follow-up was 2.1 years. Control group included 18 cases who underwent periacetabular osteotomy without labral repair. The mean follow-up was 2.3 years. Results Harris score:there were no significant differences between the labrum repair group ( 91.79 ± 5.12 ) and the control group ( 92.39 ± 5.26 ) ( P > 0.05 ). iHOT12 score: the labrum repair group ( 60.04 ± 13.14 ), which was higher than that of the control group ( 52.34 ± 12.38 ), with statisticall significance ( P < 0.05 ). One of the indicators in iHOT-12 score "abdominal inguinal region pain" was significantly higher in the labrum repair group ( 72.34 ± 12.18 ) than in control group ( 57.39 ± 15.10 ) ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusions For the treatment of DDH with labrum injury bigger than 1.5 cm, labrum repair improves the clinical outcomes of periacetabular osteotomy.
