Abstract:Objective To investigate whether T1rho values in the diverse zones of the knee meniscus differ in a young healthy population, which may provide relevant information for studying the relationship between the changing of T1rho values and meniscal lesions. Methods 18 healty volunteers ( 25 knees ) were examined with conventional MR, 3D MR and T1rho sequences. The T1rho values of lateral central, lateral posterior, medial central and medial posterior were calculated. The T1rho values of the inner and outer zone in the meniscus posterior were also calculated. Results For healthy volunteers, the T1rho values in medial central, medial posterior, lateral central and lateral posterior were ( 25.38 ± 2.07 ) ms, ( 25.37 ± 1.82 ) ms, ( 24.59 ± 1.83 ) ms and ( 24.77 ± 1.37 ) ms. These 4 sub-regions had no statistical differences ( P = 0.246 ). The T1rho values of inner and outer zones in the meniscus posterior were ( 24.29 ± 1.94 ) ms and ( 25.57 ± 1.77 ) ms. The T1rho values of the inner zone were significantly higher than that of the outer zone ( P < 0.001 ). Conclusions Zonal differences in the MR T1rho in the meniscus posterior exist in the young healthy population.
