Therapeutic results of neurotropin and glucosamine in the treatment of chondromalacia patellae at early stage
Abstract:Objective To evaluate the short-term therapeutic efficacy and safety of oral neurotropin combined with glucosamine for patients with mild to moderate chondromalacia patellae. Methods A total of 160 patients with chondromalacia patellae were randomly and evenly divided into 4 groups from March 2011 to March 2014: quadriceps muscle exercise group ( group A,n = 40 ), neurotropin with quadriceps muscle exercise group ( group B, n = 40 ), glucosamine with quadriceps muscle exercise group ( group C,n = 40 ), neurotropin and glucosamine with quadriceps muscle exercise group ( group D,n= 40 ). The course of treatment was 5 weeks. The patients received hand rehabilitation. The clinical efficacy and Lysholm scores were observed. Results Compared with pre-treatment status, knee pain, joint tenderness and activities of daily living were relieved and improved in 4 groups after the treatment. The effective rates in 4 groups were 43.59%, 66.67%, 70.27% and 87.88%. The Lysholm scores of 4 groups were ( 65.23 ± 11.31 ), ( 64.77 ± 12.12 ), ( 65.16 ± 12.11 ), ( 63.89 ± 11.57 ) pre-treatment and 76.22 ± 15.81, 82.09 ± 18.52, 85.65 ± 17.63, 92.09 ± 18.13 post-treatment. Analysis of variance showed that there were significant differences in the threshold and density between group A and groups B, C and D respectively (P < 0.05 ). No differences were found between group B and C (P = 0.366 ) (P < 0.05 ).Conclusions Oral neurotropin and glucosamine with quadriceps muscle exercise can significantly improve the short-term effects of patients with mild to moderate chondromalacia patellae.
