Abstract:Objective To report the early clinical results of periacetabular osteotomy ( PAO ) assessed with the Short Version of International Hip Outcome Tool ( iHOT-12 ). Methods From June 2012 to June 2014, patients with acetabular dysplasia underwent PAO and the results were accessed with multi-scoring forms, including WOMAC low leg score, Harris hip score ( HHS ), visual analogue scale ( VAS ), and iHOT-12. Thirty-four patients ( 38 hips ) finished the self-contrast preoperatively and postoperatively ( Group A ), and 35 patients ( 35 hips ) finished controlateral self-contrast ( Group B ). SPSS 19.0 was applied for t-test, and one-way analysis of variance ( ANOVA ) was also conducted. Results WOMAC in Group A: ( 24.5 ± 4.5 ) points preoperatively and ( 11.8 ± 1.8 ) points postopratively, statistically significant ( P = 0.002 ). Harris in Group A: ( 85.5 ± 5.5 ) points preoperatively and ( 92.2 ± 2.2 ) points postopratively, statistically significant ( P = 0.008 ). iHOT-12 in Group A: ( 47.0 ± 7.0 ) points preoperatively and ( 63.0 ± 3.0 ) points postopratively, statistically significant ( P = 0.003 ). VAS in Group A:( 32.0 ± 17.1 ) points preoperatively and ( 85.0 ± 13.3 ) points postopratively, statistically significant ( P = 0.001 ). Harris in Group B: ( 92.6 ± 2.6 ) points contralateral side and ( 94.3 ± 4.3 ) points operated side, without statistical significance ( P = 0.110 ). iHOT-12 in Group B: ( 71.8 ± 1.8 ) points contralateral side and ( 72.0 ± 2.0 ) points operated side, without statistical significance ( P = 0.934 ). VAS in Group B: ( 77.5 ± 19.7 ) points contralateral side and ( 81.0 ± 19.2 ) points operated side, without statistical significance ( P = 0.401 ). Conclusions For PAO results assessment, VAS and iHOT-12 scores are more convincing, which can reflect surgical effects and be used to assess the clinical results of the hip preservation.
