Establishment and application of an epidemiological database of primary bone tumors

Abstract：Objective To investigate the establishment and application of an online epidemiological database of primary bone tumors.Methods Original data were retrieved from the database of bone and soft tissue belonging to Beijing Jishuitan Hosptial. Database included 9200 cases of histologically conifrmed primary bone tumors out of 14 617 bone and soft tissue tumors, which was featured with open source system ( Word Press ), web-based PHP language, MySQL database system-based data storage. Parameters as age, sex, location and diagnosis were collected. Results An online epidemiological database of primary bone tumors ( ) included 4 search modules. Three modules of one parameter were designed according to diagnosis, age, and location. One comprehensive module of four parameters was designed according to age, location, gender and diagnosis.Conclusions Database designed above is free and useful for epidemiological investigation of primary bone tumors. It can also serve as a reference for the establishment of similar tumor database.
