Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical results of arthroscopic hybrid suture technique for repairing bucket-handle tears of the medial meniscus. Methods From December 2009 to December 2011, 23 patients with bucket-handle tears of the medial menisci (n=23 ) underwent arthroscopic repair by hybrid suture technique, with the whole body from the posterior horn to the anterior horn of the medial meniscus involved. There were 15 males and 8 females, whose mean age was 31.04 years old ( range: 16-47 years ). The anterior portion was repaired by standard outside-in technique. The body and posterior portion were repaired using FasT-Fix inside-out technique ( Smith & Nephew ).Results All patients were followed up for an average period of 14.17 months ( range: 9-24 months ). There were 21 asymptomatic patients in the latest follow-up, and joint space tenderness was observed in 2 patients. The MRI reexamination results showed complete healing in 18 cases and partial healing in 5 cases. The postoperative Lysholm knee function score was ( 88.22±4.15 ) points on average ( range: 81-96 points ), and the preoperative score was ( 51.30±14.42 ) points ( range: 21-70 points ). There were statistically significant differences between them. Conclusions For bucket-handle tears of the medial meniscus involving red-red and red-white zones, the arthroscopic hybrid suture technique is safe and reliable.
