Abstract:Objective To investigate the application of arthroscopically-assisted removal of retrograde intramedullary femoral nails. Methods 5 patients underwent arthroscopically-assisted removal of retrograde intramedullary femoral nails in our hospital from June 2006 to March 2009. Results All patients were followed up. All were able to walk at the 3rd day after the operation. The incision suture was removed at the 12th day after the operation without stiff joints or joint infections. The range of movement of joints at discharge was the same as that at admission. Conclusions This method combines the advantages of a small incision, less bleeding, less exposed articular cavity, fewer chances of infection and faster functional recovery of joints. The damage to intra-articular tissues and structure such as the patellar tendon, patellar cartilage and patellar fat pad after using the hook for a long time can be avoided. Exploration and treatment of intra-articular lesions can be performed at the same time.
