A Case Report of Rotating Hinged Knee Prosthesis in the Treatment of Severe Knee Deformity
Abstract:Traumatic knee osteoarthritis (TKOA) refers to the destruction and degeneration of articular cartilage in the knee joint and surrounding tissues after trauma, as well as damage to subchondral bone, synovium, joint capsule, and surrounding muscles and ligaments, leading to knee osteoarthritis and joint dysfunction [1]. Currently, the staged treatment concept is mainly adopted, and different treatment methods such as basic improvement therapy, drug therapy, knee-preserving surgery, and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are used according to the different stages of the disease [2]. Patients with severe deformities of TKOA often have ligament injuries and require hinged knee arthroplasty to reconstruct knee joint stability and restore knee function [3]. This article reports a case of severe knee deformity caused by TKOA with severe injury to the medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament. The traditional prosthesis was difficult to maintain knee joint stability, so a rotating hinged knee arthroplasty was used. Postoperatively, the patient's knee function improved significantly, and their quality of life was markedly enhanced. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (KY2024-270A), and the patient signed an informed consent form.
