Treatment of Spinal Tuberculosis Misdiagnosed as PKP: A Case Report and Literature Review
Abstract:Percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) is currently widely used in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, multiple myeloma, and vertebral metastases. Spinal tuberculosis is a contraindication for PKP [1]. Once spinal tuberculosis is misdiagnosed as an osteoporotic fracture and PKP is performed, postoperative tuberculous abscess and sequestra may lead to mechanical compression. In severe cases, cement leakage and chemical thermal injury can occur, causing spinal canal stenosis and damage to the spinal cord and nerve roots, affecting spinal stability [2].
