Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of arthroscopic treatment for giant cell tumor of tendon sheath (GCTTS) in knee joint of children. Methods The clinical data of 6 children with GCTTS of knee joint (2 cases of diffuse type and 4 cases of localized type) admitted to Quanzhou Orthopaedic Traumatological Hospital from July 2008 to February 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients underwent arthroscopic surgery. The recurrence of children during the follow-up period was observed. Lysholm knee score was used to evaluate the knee function before operation and at the last follow-up. Results The patients were followed up for 9 months to 11 years, with an average of (46.2±44.9) months. The Lysholm knee score at the last follow-up was (94.5±3.6) points, which was better than that before operation,(40.0±6.3) points (P<0.05). One patient with diffuse type recurred 9 years after operation and underwent arthroscopic debridement again. No recurrence was found in the remaining cases until the last follow-up. Conclusions Arthroscopic complete resection of GCTTS in children's knee joint has the characteristics of visualized, minimally invasive procedures and good recovery of knee joint function. Diffuse GCTTS has a certain recurrence rate, which should be paid attention to long-term follow-up.
