Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of manual reduction under general anesthesia combined with percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) in elderly patients. Methods Clinical data of 51 patients with OVCF who underwent manual reduction under general anesthesia combined with PKP in Taian 88th Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Anterior vertebral height (AVH),visual analogue scale (VAS) score of pain,Oswestry disability index (ODI) of patients were recorded before and after surgery, and intraoperative and postoperative complications were observed. Results AVH,VAS and ODI of patients at 1 d,6 weeks,3 months after the surgery were all better than preoperative ones, which showing statisctical differences (P<0.05). Postoperative complications included 1 case of delirium and 2 cases of vomiting, the symptoms disappeared after the symptomatic treatment; There were 2 patients with bone cement leakage who were undisposed because of no neurological symptoms. Conclusion Treatment of manual reduction under general anesthesia combined with PKP could restore vertebral height, relieve pain symptom and improve vertebral function,as a result, achieve reliable short-term effects for aged patients with OVCF.
