Abstract:Objective To explore the value of portable high-frequency ultrasound in the diagnosis of rib fractures. Methods The results of portable high-frequency ultrasound, chest DR examination, and 64-row dual-source CT examination were retrospectively analyzed in 68 chest trauma patients with 172 rib fractures and 18 chest trauma patients with 54 traumas but no rib fractures, and the diagnostic efficacy of three methods for rib fracture were compared. Results A total of 160 rib fractures were diagnosed using portable high-frequency ultrasound, with 16 fractures being misdiagnosed. In chest DR imaging,a total of 130 rib fractures were identified, with 54 fractures being misdiagnosed. The 64-row dual-source CT imaging revealed 165 rib fractures and 10 misdiagnoses. The diagnostic efficacy of portable high-frequency ultrasound(AUROC=0.93)and 64-row dual-source CT(AUROC=0.95)for rib fractures was similar(P>0.05),and both higher than that of chest DR(AUROC=0.77),with the differences of statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusions The portable high-frequency ultrasound has high diagnostic value for rib fractures and is an important examination method for rib fractures. It can replace CT as a routine examination method for rib fractures in hospitals without CT facilities.
