Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of perioperative psychological intervention on psychological condition and surgical effects for patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods Sixty-two patients who were treated from January 2014 to December 2015 in Panyu TCM Hospital of Guangzhou were included in the study, all of them underwent posterior lumbar laminectomy, discectomy, nerve root decompression, pedicle screw internal fixation and interbody fusion. They were divided into control group (n = 30) and observation group (n =32) randomly according to the hospitalization numbers, patients in control group were given orthopaedic routine treatment, while patients in observation group were treated by additional perioperative psychological intervention. Scores of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS) and numerical rating scale (NRS) of pain in two groups were evaluated at the admission day and 7 days after operation. Results SAS, SDS, NRS scores in both of two groups at 7 days postoperatively decreased compared with those at the admission day (P <0.05), and the above postoperative scores in observation group were all lower than those in control group (P <0.05). Conclusion For LDH patients, perioperative psychological intervention could improve their psychological conditions of anxiety and depression, enhance tolerance to pain and then improve surgical effects.
