Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Kirschner-wire tension band reduction combined with locking plate fixation for patients with MayoⅡA olecranon fractures. Methods Clinical data of 34 patients with MayoⅡA olecranon fractures treated in Orthopaedics and Traumatology Hospital affiliated to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from December 2013 to December 2014 were analyzed retrospectively,in which all the patients underwent Kirschner-wire tension band reduction and locking plate fixation. At the latest follow-up,patients were evaluated according to Mayo elbow joint evaluation standard. Results The operative time was 44 min (30-62 min),mean length of hospital stay was 9.3 d (7-12 d).All surgical incisions were healed at stage one. There were no postoperative complications such as infection, haematoma, fixator loosening or breakage. All patients were followed up with an average of 12.3 months(6-15 months). The healing time of fracture was 3 to 6 months with the average of 4.2 months.By Mayo evaluation, results at the last follow-up showed: excellent in 28 cases, good in 3 cases, fair in 3 cases, with the excellent and good rate of 91%(31/34).Conclusion For MayoⅡA olecranon fractures, combination of Kirschner-wire tension band reduction and locking plate fixation could achieve short-term satisfactory effects.
