Current situation and progress in limb salvage therapy for chronic osteomyelitis

Abstract:Treatment of chronic osteomyelitis is difficult in the field of orthopaedic trauma surgery, with long therapy course, poor clinical results and high amputation rate. In recent years, limb salvage has gradually become a research hotspot. In this paper, present situation and progress in limb salvage therapy for chronic osteomyelitis were reviewed, involving the aspects of debridement, treatment of bone defect, soft tissue coverage, stabilization of affected bone, antibiotic treatment and adjuvant therapy.
