Abstract:Objective To collect the in vivo kinematic parameters of knee joints of the patients with lateral discoid meniscus injury, and to explore the application value of infrared optical navigation technology in the evaluation of in vivo knee joint stability of the patients. Methods Six degrees of freedom (DOF) of knee joints in 24 normal human (control group) and 24 patients with lateral discoid meniscus injuries (injury group) were collected respectively by in vivo Opti_Knee? assessment system using infrared optical navigation technology, then the ranges of six DOF were calculated. Results Compared with the data in control group, the maximum and the variation range of internal/external rotational angles, anterior/posterior displacement decreased significantly (P <0.05), and the maximum of femoral outer displacement as well as the variation range of inner/outer displacement also reduced obviously (P <0.05); While the minimum of flexion angle increased significantly (P <0.05). Conclusions The kinematic parameters including internal/external rotational angles, anterior/posterior and inner/outer displacement of knee joints in the patients with lateral discoid meniscus injury changed obviously. Infrared optical navigation technique has the advantages of rapid examination and simple procedure with reliable results, which is a good choice to evaluate the in vivo stability of knee joint of the patients.
