Current researches of adult degenerative scoliosis

Abstract:Adult degenerative scoliosis (ADS) refers to spinal structural scoliosis after skeletal maturity caused by asymmetric degeneration of one or a plurality of intervertebral discs and/or facets, mainly occurred in the elderly more than 50 years old. Being one of the important reasons of low back pain, lower limb pain and intermittent claudication for elderly patients, ADS seriously affects life quality of patients. So it is of great importance to study the characteristics and methods of diagnosis and treatment for ADS. In this paper, research progress of the epidemiological and clinical characteristics, evaluation and classification as well as treatment for ADS were reviewed chiefly.
