Research progress of extreme lateral interbody fusion for the treatment of degenerative scoliosis

Abstract:De-novo Degenerative scoliosis (DDS) is one of the most common degenerative diseases in the elderly, the incidence has been increasing gradually in recent years. With the development of medical technology, application of minimally invasive techniques in DDS has become more and more popular, and the extreme lateral interbody fusion (XLIF) has been drawn attention by surgeons. In this paper, the background and advantages of XLIF technique were discussed, safety of XLIF approach was demonstrated from two aspects of anatomy study and radiological examination, at the same time, the key points and concerns of the operation were described, and clinical effects of XLIF for the treatment of DDS were emphasized.
