The secondhand smoke exposure and influencing factors among non smokers in Shaoxing City

Abstract:Objective To understand the prevalence of exposure to secondhand smoke and influencing factors among non smokers,and to provide the basis for controlling smoke and reducing the hazard of secondhand smoke.Methods 3 141 PERMANENT Residents aged 15 to 69 years in six districts and counties(cities)in Shaoxing were selected as the survey subjects by a multi-stage sampling method in 2019.A household questionnaire survey was used to collect information.Results The total exposure rate of secondhand smoke among non smokers in Shaoxing city was 51.03%.There was a statistically significant difference in the exposure to secondhand smoke in the workplace among urban and rural non smokers(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences of secondhand smoke exposure in medical institutions,government office buildings or offices,primary and secondary school campuses,university campuses,restaurants,bars,public transport,taxis among urban and rural non smokers(P<0.05).Comparing to females,aged 65 to<69,college graduates or above,and widowed among non smokers,males,aged 25 to<35 years old,35 to<45 years old and 45 to<55 years old,primary school,high school,vocational school and secondary school education level,married and divorced were more likely to be exposed to secondhand smoke.Conclusion The second hand smoke exposure rate of non smokers in Shaoxing City is still high.The gender,age,education level,and marital status are closely related to the second hand smoke exposure of non smokers.Targeted measures should be taken to reduce the second hand smoke exposure rate of non smokers.
