Study on the influencing factor of fertility intention and sexual behavior of residents in the Greater Bay Area

Abstract:Objective Starting from sexual behavior,identify the reasons for the gap between ideal and recent fertility intentions in the Greater Bay Area.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the demographic and sexual behavior characteristics of 2 932 residents in 41 communities of 9 cities in the Greater Bay Area who met the inclusion criteria.The chi-square test was used to analyze the factors influencing residents'fertility intentions and sexual behavior.Results There were statistically significant differences in the ideal number of children desired by residents of different ages(x2=238.42),levels of education(x2=143.21),and work unit(x2=36.53)(P<0.001);the age of first sexual activity(x2=32.71),frequency of sexual life(x2=60.21),and satisfaction with recent sexual life(x2=15.22)affected the ideal number of children desired by residents(P<0.05);whether sexual education was received before the age of 18(x2=21.41),age of first sexual activity(x2=13.43),frequency of sexual life(x2=59.03),satisfaction with recent sexual life(x2=32.72),and ideal number of children(x2=14.05)influenced actual fertility intentions(P<0.05).Conclusion Residents who engage in sexual activity at an early age and are satisfied with their sexual life have a higher actual fertility intention.Establishing a monitoring and evaluation system for marital satisfaction and fertility intentions is of great significance in promoting fertility intentions.
