Follow-up study on improved conditions of bones health in middle age and women by nutrition education

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of nutrition education on preventing and improvement the rapidly decrease on the bone density in middle age and old age of women. Methods A total of 122 middle-aged women with low bone density were randomly divided into two groups according to adjusted age and bone density. The case group was nutritionally educated, while the control group did not carry out nutrition education. The effect was examined by comparing the awareness of nutrition knowledge and behavioral habits before and after intervention, and the occurrence of non-violent fractures during the period. Results In the case group, the awareness rate of nutrition knowledge and the relevant behavioral habits that favor bone health were significantly improved after the intervention, and the difference was statistically significant ( χ2= 9. 13, P <0. 01) ; there was no significant difference in the control group. The incidence of nonviolent fractures was 3. 3% in the observed group and 6. 6% in the control group, which was significantly higher than that in the case group ( χ2= 4. 13, P < 0.05). Conclusion The education of middle and old aged woman related to nutrition knowledge can improve the behavior habits, so as to increase the dietary intake of calcium, improve the body's absorption and utilization of calcium into a conscious behavior in life, it is great significant to prevent and improve bone mineral density and osteoporosis and effectively reduce the risk of non-violent fractures in middle and old aged woman.
