Abstract:To clarify the regulatory effects of different mulch films on yield and soil environment in greenhouse watermelon, and to screen for efficient and environmentally friendly mulching materials that can replace traditional polyethylene(PE)film, this study systematically compared the effects of no mulch(CK),farmer-common PE film(T1),standard PE film(T2),thickened PE film(T3),and three types of biodegradable(BD)films(T4、T5、T6)on watermelon yield, soil hydrothermal conditions, and film degradation characteristics using greenhouse-cultivated mini-watermelon.The results showed that T4 treatment achieved the highest total watermelon yield, which was not significantly different from T2,but significantly increased the yield by 20.8%and 23.5%compared to CK and T1,respectively.T4 film exhibited excellent water retention and thermal insulation properties, with slow and controllable degradation(only 3.69%degradation after 120 days of burial),enabling stable mulching throughout the entire growth period.T5 and T6 degraded too rapidly, failing to consistently maintain water retention and thermal insulation during the growth period, resulting in significantly lower yield increases compared to T4.In conclusion, fully biodegradable film T4 performed well overall and was suitable for wider application in greenhouse watermelon production.
