Antidiabetic Activity of Pomegranate Seed Extract on Diabetic Mice

Abstract：A theoretical basis for further development and use of pomegranate seeds by investigating the hypoglycemic effect of aqueous extract and methanol extract of pomegranate seed on diabetic mice induced by Alloxan in this paper. Diabetic mice model was established by intraperitoneal injection which was randomly divided into 7 groups, including model group, high-does, middle-does, low-does groups of aqueous extract and methanol extract.Normal control was established simultaneously. It lasted 27 days that experimental groups were given with 300, 600, 900mg/(kg weight)/d dose and normal and model groups were perfused with 0.3 milliliter of 0.9%saline solution. Blood glucose value and weight of all mice was determined in the 3rd, 9th, 15th, 21th, 27th day, respectively. The results showed that aqueous extract and methanol extract of pomegranate seed can obviously reduce blood sugar level in mice. And aqueous extract which can also improve the symptom of body weight lowering showed more significant effect than methanol extract.
