Meta-Analysis of Risk Factors for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Liu Shuang
Abstract:OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)in the Chinese population and provide research support for early prevention and early warning of COPD.METHODS Systematically searched Chinese and foreign databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),WanFang Data,PubMed,and Embase to collect case-control studies related to COPD risk factors in the Chinese population, with a search period from January 2010 to February 2021.Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software, and the heterogeneity of included studies was evaluated and sensitivity analysis was conducted.Publication bias was assessed using funnel plots.RESULTS A total of 18 studies were included, involving 30,283 patients.Smoking history(OR=2.28,95%CI:1.78-2.93,P<0.01),family history of respiratory diseases(OR=2.00,95%CI:1.48-2.70,P<0.01),dust exposure history(OR=2.68,95%CI:1.46-4.92,P<0.01),age(OR=1.27,95%CI:1.11-1.46,P<0.01),use of coal and other biofuels(OR=1.89,95%CI:1.35-2.64,P<0.01),male(OR=1.51,95%CI:1.02-2.24,P<0.01),history of respiratory diseases(OR=2.69,95%CI:1.67-4.35,P<0.01),infections(OR=4.72,95%CI:1.88-11.86,P<0.01),allergic history(OR=1.74,95%CI:1.10-2.76,P<0.01),and ventilation environment(OR=2.08,95%CI:1.27-3.41,P<0.01)are risk factors for COPD in the Chinese population.CONCLUSION Measures such as quitting smoking, avoiding exposure to biofuels and dust, avoiding allergens, getting seasonal flu vaccines, and reducing exposure to air pollutants can help prevent or delay the onset of COPD.
