Abstract:OBJECTIVE To assess the current status of Mycobacterium tuberculosis(MTB)infection among new middle school students in Ningde and provide reference for tuberculosis prevention and control in schools.METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted, screening 51 024 new students from 137 middle schools in Ningde in 2024 using TST/TBST tests. The epidemiological characteristics of latent tuberculosis infection(LTBI)and active pulmonary tuberculosis were analyzed through x2 tests.RESULTS The overall positive rate was 3.48%(1 775/51 024),with LTBI rate at 2.55%(1 299 cases)and active tuberculosis detection rate 37.24/105(19 cases).TST test positivity rate(5.45%)was significantly higher than TBST(1.90%),and the difference was statistically significant(x2=471.662,P<0.05).High school students showed higher positivity rates(4.05%)and case detection rates(17.22/105)compared to junior high school students(2.81%,5.04/105),all differences were statistically significant.94.7%of case(18/19)were concentrated in Jiaocheng District, with two schools showing class cluster infections(≥2 cases in the same class).CONCLUSION TBST testing is more suitable for tuberculosis screening of new students.High school freshmen constitute a key prevention and control population, and continuous implementation of health checkups for new middle school students is crucial for controlling tuberculosis outbreaks in schools.
