Analysis of the Effect of Free Treatment for Patients with Severe Mental Disorders in Jiangning District of Nanjing

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To analyze the effectiveness of free treatment for patients with severe mental disorders in Jiangning District of Nanjing,to provide a basis for improving and promoting the free treatment policy.METHODS From January to April 2022,23 community health service centers were selected as survey sites in Jiangning District of Nanjing.A questionnaire survey was used to evaluate the treatment outcomes of patients receiving free treatment.RESULTS The rates of regular medication adherence,intermittent medication adherence,undermedication/missed medication,and incidents of causing harm(80.2%,5.0%,1.4%,4.0%)after participating in free treatment were significantly improved compared to before(57.9%,31.0%,9.8%,54.0%),with statistically significant differences(P＜0.05).CONCLUSION The free treatment policy in Jiangning District fundamentally addresses the issue of treatment costs for patients with severe mental disorders,making it a government decision that achieves both social and economic benefits,and is worthy of promotion.
