Survey on Knowledge and Behavior of Acute Respiratory Infectious Diseases in Student'Parents

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the knowledge and behavior among parents of nursery institutions,primary and secondary schools in Jing'an District of Shanghai on acute respiratory infectious diseases,and to provide evidence for carrying out targeted health education in the future to improve the prevention and control ability of acute respiratory infectious diseases in schools.METHODS Multi-stage sampling method was used to collect data through self-made questionnaires,and t-test or one-way ANOVA were used to compare the scores of parents'knowledge and behavior with different basic characteristics.RESULTS A total of 1 393 questionnaires were included in the analysis.The awareness rate of parents was normal(69.55%),and the implementation rate of behavior was good(82.68%).The average score of parents'knowledge was(13.61±2.62),the score of female knowledge was higher than that of male knowledge,and the score of parents with high school education or below was lower;parents of high school students also scored lower on knowledge;parents who were health care workers,had respiratory symptoms in the last two months,and received related publicity and education in the last three months had higher knowledge scores.The average score of parents'behavior was(12.40±2.43),the behavioral score of parents whose occupation was full-time housewife/husband was higher than those who were administrative staff and self-employed/freelancers;parents who had respiratory symptoms in the past two months and received relevant publicity and education in the past three months had higher behavioral scores.CONCLUSION Parents in Jing'an District has a low awareness rate of acute respiratory infectious diseases,and their prevention and control behavior is relatively good.Publicity and education can improve the level of parents'knowledge and behavior.Health education work should focus on the role of father in the family,low education and high school parents,and the content focuses on key respiratory infectious diseases and vaccines.
