Analysis on Epidemiological Characteristics of Leprosy in Mengshan County of Guangxi from 1956 to 2023

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemic characteristics of leprosy in Mengshan County of Guangxi from 1956 to 2023,and to provide reference for the formulation of local leprosy control strategies.METHODS The data of leprosy in Mengshan County of Guangxi from 1956 to 2023 were collected and analyzed by descriptive epidemiological method.RESULTS A total of 53 cases of leprosy were discovered in Mengshan County of Guangxi from 1956 to 2023,with an annual detection rate of 0.45/105 people and an annual incidence rate of 2.89/105 people.The detection rate and incidence rate were highest from 1971 to 1975,at 2.20/105 people and 12.93/105 people,respectively.After 1975,the detection and incidence rates generally showed a downward trend,and the incidence rate has remained below 1/105 people since 1985.The cases were mostly male(42 cases,79.25％),with an average age of 34.13 years,and the age range was 15～40 years(38 cases,71.70％).The occupation was mostly farmers(50 cases,94.34％),and the ethnicity was mostly Han(50 cases,94.34％).The cases were distributed in 7 townships,with the most in Wenxu Town(16 cases,30.19％).The method of case detection was mostly active detection(48 cases,90.57％),including 26 cases(49.06％)from clue investigation.The source of infection was mostly family outside(15 cases,28.30％)and family inside(10 cases,18.87％),with 28 cases(52.83％)of unknown source.The average delay period was 49.92 months,with 34 cases(64.15％)having a delay of more than 25 months.There were 12 cases(22.64％)of grade Ⅱ disability,and the type was mainly tuberculoid leprosy(TT),with 31 cases(58.49％),followed by lepromatous leprosy(LL)with 18 cases(33.96％).46 of the cases completed treatment,with a completion rate of 86.79％,a total of 7 death cases were reported,and the remaining 7 cases did not complete treatment due to death before recovery.CONCLUSION The epidemic of leprosy in Mengshan County of Guangxi has been effectively controlled,but there are problems such as a long delay in the diagnosis of cases and a high proportion of deformity.Strong safeguard measures need to be continuously provided,early detection and treatment of cases,and further consolidation of prevention and control results.
