Analysis of Physical Development in Preschool Children Aged 3 to 6 Years in Lixian County

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To assess the growth and development status of preschool children aged 3 to 6 years in Lixian County of Hunan Province,provide a basis for future child health care initiatives.METHODS Data were collected from the physical examinations of 2 337 outpatient preschool children aged 3 to 6 years at the Lixian County Maternal and Child Health Family Planning Service Center from January to December in 2024.The study compared growth and development conditions as well as anemia prevalence among different age groups and genders.RESULTS Among the examined children,the rates of underweight,stunting,and low weight were found to be 1.24%,1.37%,and 1.54%respectively;while the obesity rate was recorded at 2.18%.The overall anemia detection rate was noted at approximately 10.65%.Specifically,the stunting rate for boys was observed at 2.00%,significantly higher than that of girls(0.64%),with statistical significance(χ2=7.044,P<0.05).Additionally,boys exhibited an obesity rate of 2.81%,which was notably greater than that of girls(1.47%),also showing statistical significance(χ2=4.302,P<0.05).CONCLUSION The overall physical development status of preschool children in Lixian County is relatively good;however,issues such as obesity and anemia warrant attention.It is essential to enhance monitoring of physical development among preschoolers and implement effective intervention measures to safeguard children's health.
