Investigation on the Current Status of Cognitive Impairment Among Elderly People in Baoshan District of Shanghai and Analysis of Influencing Factors

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction among elderly people in Baoshan District of Shanghai,explore its related influencing factors,and provide reference for community efforts to promote the prevention and treatment of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly.METHODS A survey was conducted using electronic questionnaires to investigate the cognitive function and basic situation of 2 481 elderly people in 7 streets and towns in Baoshan District of Shanghai.RESULTS The positive rate of cognitive dysfunction risk among the elderly included in the survey is 24.9%.There was a statistically significant difference in the total score of the initial screening,language paraphrasing score,attention score,and short-term memory score between the two groups(P<0.05).The results of single factor analysis showed that age,education background,years of education,sports habits,hobbies,smoking history,drinking history,hypertension history,diabetes history,stroke history and other factors were statistically significant(P<0.05).Multivariate analysis showed that education background,years of education,exercise habits,history of hypertension,history of diabetes,history of stroke and other factors were statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The incidence of cognitive dysfunction among elderly people in Baoshan District of Shanghai is relatively high.Early screening and comprehensive intervention for the elderly should be emphasized to reduce or delay the occurrence of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly.
