Abstract:OBJECTIVE To provide the evidence for the optimization of the pneumococcal vaccine immunization program in China by understanding the immunization schedules worldwide and effects of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine(PCV13)in countries or regions.METHODS A descriptive analysis was conducted on the number of countries or regions with PCV13 immunization programs, the number of doses, the interval between doses, and the earliest age of vaccination. The incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease(IPD)in children under 5 years old and the incidence rate ratio before and after the inclusion of PCV13 in the immunization program were estimated for 4 selected representative countries(the United States,Australia,France,Israel).RESULTS 139 countries or regions worldwide had PCV13 immunization programs.The"2+1"schedule was occupied by the largest number of countries or regions(65 cases,46.76%),the"3+0"schedule by 53 countries or regions(30.64%),and the"3+1"schedule by 21 countries or regions(12.14%).The monitoring data of the four representative countries after the introduction of PCV13 showed that the incidence of pneumococcal disease decreased significantly(57%~88%),and the incidence rate ratio before and after the introduction of PCV13 ranged from 0.12(95%CI:0.11~0.13)to 0.44(95%CI:0.43~0.47).CONCLUSION Most countries and regions worldwide have involved PCV13 into their national immunization programs with the different immunization strategies. However, the incidence of IPD is lowered to some degrees in selected countries after the implementation. The findings indicates that China may change immunization program on PCV13 vaccine in recent future timely.
