Analysis of the Awareness of Hepatitis C Prevention and Treatment Knowledge and Influencing Factors Among Hepatitis C patients in Putuo District of Shanghai

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the knowledge and influencing factors of hepatitis C prevention and treatment among patients with hepatitis C in Putuo District of Shanghai,and to provide a reference basis for targeted publicity and education.METHODS From April to May in 2024,participants were recruited in an urban area of Shanghai and interviewed in person or by telephone.Descriptive analysis was used to present the demographic and other characteristics of participants.Factors associated with knowledge of hepatitis C prevention and treatment were explored by univariate and multivariable analyses.RESULTS A total of 363 valid questionnaires were collected,with a mean age of the respondents of 58.04 years,a male-to-female sex ratio of 1.54∶1,and a mean score of 7.36 for knowledge of hepatitis C prevention and treatment.The overall knowledge rate was 42.98%,and the highest and lowest knowledge rates of the single item was 84.57%and 14.33%,respectively.The multivariate analysis revealed that,compared with patients in the age group of<50 years,patients in the 50~69 years group(OR=0.342,95%CI:0.171~0.684)and ≥70 years group(OR=0.307,95%CI:0.127~0.742)had lower awareness of hepatitis C prevention and treatment.Compared with patients with junior high school education or below,those who had not received health education,and those who were unaware of treatment-related information,patients with a college degree or above(OR=2.518,95%CI:1.085~5.844),those who had received education on hepatitis C knowledge(OR=1.391,95%CI:1.033~2.591),and those who were aware of treatment-related information(OR=2.405,95%CI:1.394~4.152)had higher awareness of hepatitis C prevention and treatment knowledge.CONCLUSION Hepatitis C patients in an urban area of Shanghai have a low level of knowledge about hepatitis C prevention and treatment,and it is necessary to focus on educating patients aged 50 years and above and those with low education and to strengthen the popularization of treatment-related knowledge.
