Analysis the Status of Overweight or Obesity Among Students of A Middle School in Minhang District of Shanghai and the Influencing Factors

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To analyze the status of overweight or obesity among students of a middle school in Minhang District of Shanghai and the influencing factors.METHODS A questionnaire survey was used to investigate the general situation,family situation and living habits of students in the middle school in Minhang District of Shanghai.Combined with the physical examination data,analyzed the incidence of overweight or obesity of middle schoolstudents and its influencing factors.RESULTS The incidence of overweight or obesity was 35.86%(overweight 20.54%,obesity 15.33%).The results of single factor analysis showed that whether students were overweight or obese was different in gender,whether their father was obese,whether their mother was obese,how fast they ate compared with their classmates of the same sex,whether they had overeating due to stress,whether they ate breakfast every day,whether their weight caused parents'attention,and whether they thought health education was needed,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that eating slower than classmates of the same sex(OR=0.26)was a protective factor for overweight or obesity.Male(OR=1.83),not eating breakfast every day(OR=2.57),overeating due to stress(OR=2.02),paternal obesity(OR=1.56),maternal obesity(OR=2.20),and weight concern by parents(OR=4.15)were the risk factors for overweight or obesity.CONCLUSION There is a high incidence of overweight or obesity among students in the middle school in Minhang District of Shanghai.The incidence of overweight or obesity is related to gender,obesity of parents,eating speed,overeating due to stress,breakfast consumption and parents'attention,etc.It is suggested that joint intervention by school and family can improve the overweight or obesity situation of students in this school.
