Analysis on the Prevalent Trend of Overweight and Obesity in Children and Adolescents Aged in Songjiang District from 2019 to 2023

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence and trends of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 in the Songjiang District from 2019 to 2023,and to provide a scientific basis for interventions and effective prevention.METHODS The data were obtained from the Songjiang area monitoring data of the"National Student Common Diseases and Health Risk Factors Surveillance"conducted between 2019 and 2023.A total of 13 898 children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 were included.The prevalence of overweight and obesity was estimated based on the Screening Standard for Overweight and Obesity in School-Age Children and Adolescents(WS/T586-2018).RESULTS From 2019 to 2023,the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 in Songjiang district were 7.20%and 20.83%,respectively,with average annual growth rates of 7.20%and 20.83%.The prevalence of overweight and obesity was higher in males than in females across different years.Age distribution revealed that the 12 to 15 age group had the highest growth rate of overweight(11.41%),while the 9 to 11 age group had the highest growth rate of obesity(49.39%).Geographic distribution showed that rural areas had the highest growth rate of overweight detection(12.80%),and suburban areas had the highest growth adolescents in rural areas and implement effective nutritional policies and health rate of obesity(32.25%).CONCLUSION The prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 in Songjiang District showed an increasing trend from 2019 to 2023.The government should focus on the issue of overweight and obesity among children and intervention strategies to address the rising trend of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents.
