The Investigation Oral Health Status of Elementary School Students and Its Analysis of Influencing Factors in Jin-shan District of Shanghai

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To understand the oral health status of elementary school students in Jinshan District of Shanghai,and explore the influencing factors,in order to provide a scientific basis for the development of targeted oral health education and preventive measures.METHODS Using randomized stratified cluster sampling,3 elementary schools in Jinshan District,Shanghai were selected,and 2 classes in each grade of each elementary school with a total of 885 elementary school students were selected as the study subjects for oral examination and parent questionnaire survey.Risk factors for oral health of elementary school students were clarified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis.RESULTS The overall caries rate of 885 elementary school students was 48.14%,the caries rate of milk teeth was 45.08%,the caries rate of permanent teeth was 4.86%,and the caries average was 1.51,the caries average of milk teeth was 1.42,and the caries average of permanent teeth was 0.08.It was found by univariate analysis that the parents of primary school students had low educational level,had low frequency of brushing,helped their children to brush their teeth less frequently,had less fluoride applied to the teeth,and used less fluoride-free toothpaste to brush their teeth.The difference was statistically significant;the multifactorial analysis found that age,frequency of eating sweet snacks,father's education,mother's education,frequency of brushing,time of brushing,and rinsing habit were related to caries in primary school students.CONCLUSION The oral health problems of elementary school children are serious and affected by many factors,therefore,special attention and measures are needed in preventive oral health care.
